Reelected Cavite 7th district representative Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla has been offered the position of Justice secretary under the presumptive Marcos cabinet. He insisted that he did not apply for the job but accepted it.
“I accepted it. It’s an honor to serve the country in that capacity,” he stated earlier today.
Last March 5, Remulla was under fire for red-tagging the supporters of the Robredo-Pangilinan tandem who had a huge turnout in their Cavite grand rally. Hebaselessly linked rally attendees to the CPP-NPA-NDF. He added activists allegedly trained under the NDF were also present.
“Ang CPP-NPA-NDF tsaka ang pink, magkakampi na. ‘Yung pink naman kasi, dilawan ‘yun eh. Kakampi naman talaga nila ‘yun,” Remulla stated.
He did not have evidence to back up his claims.
Remulla, a staunch National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) supporter, also blocked the UP-DND Accord bill.
House Bill (HB) 10171, the bill institutionalizing the UP-DND Accord, passed its 3rd reading in Congress last September 21, 2021, and has already been passed to the Senate when Remulla expressed his reconsideration on September 30, 5 days after its submission to the Senate.
Motions for reconsideration were only accepted until September 22. However, his appeal for reconsideration was approved despite not meeting the said deadline.
“Without Remulla’s powertripping, the UP-DND Accord should have been passed on third and final reading, and only a few steps away from becoming a law,” Kabataan Party-list first nominee Raoul Manuel asserted.
Remulla was also one of the most vocal congressmen who pushed to deny the ABS-CBN its franchise renewal. He argued that the network had major violations including foreign ownership issues and unpaid taxes.
However, his claims have been consistently debunked by various government agencies.
Remulla’s transitioning into office has not been discussed yet between him and incumbent Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, but a briefing has been scheduled.
Once he assumes the position, Remulla will sit in the Anti-Terror Council as one of its members who are enabled to designate people as terrorists and order their arrest and detention. Remulla would also be in-charge of pending cases in the Justice department, including the Bloody Sunday last May 2021 and drug war killings.
KPL stressed Remulla as Justice secretary would enable “no justice” especially under an “academic freedom killer and redtagger.”
