Remembering Nico Oropa Sabasa and his life of victory

The College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP) community mourns the passing of Nico Oropa Sabasa, a freshman from the Department of Philosophy, last October 2, Saturday, due to severe COVID-19.

In his brief but worthwhile time being an Iskolar ng Bayan, Nico had already lived up to his name —the Greek word for “victory.” He put his heart into every goal and had a passion to learn despite difficulties in life.

Most of all, Nico was also a very loving and selfless son who wished that all of his successes could compensate for all of his parents’ sacrifices.

“The world might be dark but I am fearless and I shine while chasing my dreams with my burning passion and determination to achieve success which gives light to my destination,” Nico stated in his senior high school graduation valedictorian speech.

The UP Diliman Department of Philosophy, alongside the UP Diliman Apeiron Core group, and the rest of CSSP and UP Diliman expresses their deepest condolences to Nico’s loved ones.

For those who wish to contribute with Nico’s medical and funeral expenses, you may send your donations through his mother’s GCash account: Josica Heneran Oropa (0932 965 9422).
