“Given the incessant red-tagging and other attacks on UP constituents, we commend the passing on third reading of House Bill 10171, which institutionalizes the UP-DND Accord in the UP Charter. Kinundena ng mga guro at mga tauhan ang promosyon ng mga opisyal na sangkot sa panrered-tag ng mga kawani at mag-aaral ng unibersidad.Sinulong rin noong Setyembre 23, Huwebes, ang agarang pagpapatupad sa\u00a0 mga batas na magbibigay proteksiyon sa academic freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Binigyang diin ng mga kawani ng unibersidad sa isang public consultation on red-tagging and academic freedom ang suporta nito sa Kapulungan ng mga Kinatawan sa pagpasa ng HB 10171 o ang pag-iinstitusyonalisa ng UP-DND Accord sa ikatlo at huli nitong pagbasa sa House of Representatives noong Setyembre 21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matatandaan na ang panreredtag na naglalagay sa panganib sa buhay ng komunidad ng pamantasan ay lubhang naging malala nang makaisang-panig na buwagin ni Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana ang UP-DND Accord noong Enero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kamakailan nga lamang, ang samu’t-saring protesta at mobilisasyon sa  pag-alala ng anibersaryo ng batas militar ay sinalubong ng administrasyong Duterte ng puwersa at pananakot. Gumamit ang militar ng mga “water cannon” at ilegal na pinanghimasukan ang kampus ng UP Mindanao.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kaya naman umaasa ang mga kawani ng UP na mainam ding maipapasa ng senado ang HB 10171 upang mabigyang proteksiyon ang pamantasan, mgamiyembro nito, at ang pag-igting ng academic freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Higit pa rito umaasa rin si Guiang na maipapasa ng Kapulungan ng mga Kinatawan ang HB 8544 na magbibigay ng proteksyon sa academic freedom ng UP at sa iba pang institusyong pang-edukasyon, pribado man o pampubliko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samantala, kinundena rin ni CONTEND-UP Chairperson at Propesorr Gerardo Lanuza sa nasabing public consultation ang promosyon ni Major General Benedicto Arevalo na  nanguna sa panrered-tag at atake sa mga kawani at estudyante ng pamantasan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Si Arevalo ay itinalaga  bilang komandanter ng 3rd Infantry Division ng Western Visayas na nagpapakita lamang umano ng kawalan ng pananagutan sa pang-aabuso at pagtakas ng mga opisyal sa mga naging aksyon nito.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maaalala na si Arevalo at Major General Alex Luna ang nanguna sa pagpapakalat ng pangalan ng mga UP alumni na mali niyang inakusahan bilang mga rebelde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We condemn this latest attack on UP. These red-taggers are removed from the spotlight at the height of public outcry but are promoted when the issue has died down. Under Duterte, the military has zero accountability for their crimes against the people,\u201d ani Lanuza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
